Chapter 3 - Opening the Folder
Elena tossed the first set of documents onto the middle of the dining table.
"Exhibit A," Elena announced. "Bank statements from Swiss bank accounts opened under the name 'E&M Horizons Ltd.' Created two years ago—exactly six months after Evelyn married Arthur."
Arthur slowly reached out and picked up the paper. His eyes scanned the numbers, his breathing becoming shallow and heavy.
"Evelyn..." Arthur whispered, looking up at his wife. "This account received four wire transfers from Sterling Enterprises’ operational slush fund totaling twelve million dollars. Signed off by... Mark."
"It's a fake!" Mark screamed, stepping toward his father. "Dad, she hired hackers! She bought fake documents off the dark web! You know how cunning she is!"
"Do I?" Elena asked, leaning back against the marble fireplace mantle. "Then explain Exhibit B, Mark."
She pulled out a second stack of papers, glossy photographs, and transcriptions.
"These are security logs from the St. Regis Penthouse in Miami," Elena said, her voice cool and rhythmic. "Every weekend Arthur was in London receiving his heart treatments, you and Evelyn booked the suite under E&M Horizons. You spent seven hundred thousand dollars of company money on diamonds, private jets, and hotel suites."
"Arthur, don't look at those!" Evelyn shrieked, scrambling off the floor and trying to snatch the papers from Arthur’s hands.
Arthur shoved her away with a sudden, surging strength born of pure betrayal. "Get off me!" he roared, his voice echoing through the entire house. "Get away from me, you venomous snake!"
Evelyn fell back onto the rug, her polished exterior completely shattered. She looked at Mark with wide, desperate eyes. "Mark! Say something! Tell him!"

Mark stood paralyzed. The walls were closing in, and his mind was spinning out of control.
"I'm not finished," Elena said softly, pulling out a USB drive from the front pocket of the folder. "The financial theft is just money, Arthur. You can always make more money. But what they did next... that's where the real tragedy lies."
