Chapter 7 - The Masterstroke

Arthur’s eyes widened slightly as he looked at Elena. "Elena... what do you mean?"
Elena pulled out the final document from the black folder—a thick, gold-stamped contract with official corporate seals.
"Arthur," Elena said, turning to her father-in-law. "Five years ago, when you asked me to sign a prenuptial agreement before marrying Mark, I agreed without hesitation. But what Mark forgot to read was the secondary clause regarding the trust fund my grandfather established."
She slid the document to Arthur.
"When Mark initiated the fraudulent transfer of twelve million dollars from Sterling Enterprises," Elena explained, "he accidentally triggered the automatic debt-default clause on the private bonds held by my family's firm, Vance Holdings. Because Sterling Enterprises used those bonds as collateral, the default gave Vance Holdings the immediate right to convert that debt into voting equity."
Arthur gasped as he read the legal numbers. "You... you bought sixty percent of the company's floating debt?"
"I bought all of it," Elena replied with a calm smile. "As of four o'clock this afternoon, Arthur, I am no longer just your daughter-in-law. I am the majority shareholder of Sterling Enterprises."
Mark looked as if he had been struck by lightning. "What...? No... that's impossible! You don't have that kind of money!"

"My family built the bank that gave your father his first loan, Mark," Elena said dryly. "You lived in my shadows for five years and thought you were the sun."
Evelyn slumped against the security guard holding her, completely broken. The money, the status, the business—everything she had spent years scheming to steal was gone in a single heartbeat.
