Chapter 5 - The Father's Fury

Arthur stood up from his chair. His frame, usually hunched with age, straightened with terrifying authority. He looked at Mark—his only son, the boy he had groomed to take over his legacy.
"Is this true, Mark?" Arthur’s voice was barely a whisper, but it carried the weight of an anvil. "You... you helped her poison me?"
"No! Dad, no! I didn't know about the pills!" Mark broke down, tears streaming down his face as he fell to his knees, grabbing his father's trousers. "Evelyn told me it was just vitamin supplements! She said it would help you sleep! I swear, Dad, I didn't want to hurt you! I loved you!"
"Don't throw me under the bus, you coward!" Evelyn snarled, springing up like a cornered animal. "You came up with the plan! You were the one who said your father was too old to run the company! You said you couldn't wait for him to die so we could run away to Greece!"
"Shut up! Shut up!" Mark screamed at her, his face twisted in desperate agony.
Arthur looked down at his crying son with absolute revulsion. He kicked his leg free from Mark's grip.
"You are no son of mine," Arthur said quietly.
Arthur reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his phone. He dialed three numbers.
"Security team," Arthur said into the phone, his voice steady and deadly. "Bring the estate guards upstairs to the main dining room. And call Chief Detective Vance. Tell him to bring three patrol cars to the Sterling estate immediately."
"Arthur! No! Please!" Evelyn panicked, running toward the front foyer to escape.
But before she could reach the door, two giant, uniformed security guards stepped into the hallway, blocking the exit with their arms crossed.

Elena picked up her glass of red wine, took a slow sip, and sat down at the head of the dining table.
"Where are you going, Evelyn?" Elena asked smoothly. "The party has just begun."
