Chapter 17 - The Sun of Napa Valley

Six months later. Spring had arrived in Napa Valley, California.
The air was warm, sweet, and filled with the scent of blooming orange blossoms and rich, fertile soil. The sun shone brightly over the three hundred acres of the new Moretti Family Estate—a paradise of rustic stone buildings, sprawling green vineyards, and quiet olive groves.
The main villa was a warm, welcoming home filled with large open windows, terracotta floors, and the constant sound of music and children's laughter.
In the rear courtyard overlooking the valley, Emma stood near a long wooden dining table set for a grand outdoor lunch. She wore a simple, beautiful yellow sundress that complemented her glowing skin, her hair pulled back into a loose, comfortable braid. Her stomach was slightly rounded—a sweet, subtle hint of a new miracle growing inside her.
Gabriel walked out from the kitchen, wearing a simple linen shirt and dark trousers, carrying a large platter of grilled vegetables and fresh sourdough bread. He looked younger, relaxed, and healthier than he ever had in his entire life. The harsh lines of tension that had once dominated his face were completely gone, replaced by a permanent warmth around his eyes.
He walked up behind Emma, wrapping his arms gently around her waist and resting his hands over her small baby bump.
"How is our little girl doing today?" Gabriel asked softly, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Emma smiled radiantly, resting her hands over his. "She’s kicking. I think she’s excited about lunch."
"Or she’s excited that her brothers are currently distracted," Gabriel chuckled, pointing toward the nearby olive grove.
A short distance away, six-year-old Leo, Lucas, and Liam were helping Matteo and Viktor Rossi build a massive wooden treehouse in the branches of a grand oak tree. The boys were wearing mini tool belts, shouting instructions to Matteo, who was patiently driving screws into a wooden platform while laughing.
David Chen and Detective Mendez—who had recently retired from the police force to become the chief of security for the estate—were sitting under the shade of a large pergola, drinking red wine from the estate’s first private vintage.
"It still feels like a dream sometimes," Emma murmured, leaning back into Gabriel’s solid warmth. "After everything we went through... to be here, like this."
"It's not a dream, Emma," Gabriel said gently, turning her around in his arms to look into her eyes. "It's the life we fought for. The life Isabella wanted for us, and the life our children deserve."
Suddenly, a sleek red convertible pulled up the long gravel driveway, kicking up a small cloud of dust. The door swung open, and a young, stylish woman stepped out, wearing sunglasses and holding a large gift box tied with a white ribbon.
It was Maya Lin, the brilliant former tech analyst from Chicago who had helped David Chen untangle the financial ledgers.
"Maya!" Emma called out, stepping forward to greet her with a warm embrace.
"Look at you!" Maya exclaimed, hugging Emma tight before looking down at her bump. "You look absolutely glowing, Emma! And look at this place! It’s like something straight out of a luxury travel magazine!"
"Welcome to our home, Maya," Gabriel said, offering her a warm handshake. "Did you bring the final filings?"
Maya pulled a sleek silver tablet from her bag, beaming with excitement. "The California Corporate Registrar officially approved the charter this morning, Gabriel. The Isabella Moretti Foundation for Children is officially registered. Our first five million dollars in grants have been disbursed to orphanages and youth shelters across the country."

Gabriel looked at Emma, his eyes shining with deep pride. They had turned the dark legacy of the past into a beacon of hope for thousands of innocent children.
"Come," Emma said, grabbing Maya’s hand. "Lunch is ready, and the boys have been dying to show you their new treehouse!"
