Chapter 10 - The Garden of Peace

One year later.

Spring had returned to the Swiss Alps. The gardens of the Hale Estate were bathed in golden afternoon light, the air filled with the sweet fragrance of blooming cherry blossoms and fresh pine.

In the backyard, beside a massive ancient oak tree, sat a custom-built wooden playhouse with a small garden bed full of bright yellow sunflowers.

Three-year-old Sophie was running across the lush grass, holding a small toy watering can, giggling as she watered the sunflowers.

On the stone patio overlooking the lawn, a small, intimate gathering of close friends was assembled. White floral arches decorated the patio, and a harpist played a gentle, romantic melody.

Victor stood beneath the floral arch, wearing a sharp navy morning suit, a white rose pinned to his lapel. His eyes were fixed on the glass French doors of the mansion.

The doors opened.

Evelyn walked out onto the stone patio. She wore a breathtaking, vintage-inspired lace wedding dress, her chestnut hair styled in elegant curls, holding a bouquet of white peonies and lavender.

Beside her walked Sophie, tossing flower petals onto the stone path with pure, joyful enthusiasm.

Victor’s eyes shone with tears of happiness as Evelyn reached the altar. He took her hand, lacing his fingers through hers, pulling her close.

"You are breathtaking, my love," Victor whispered softly.

"And you are my home, Victor," Evelyn replied, her heart full to bursting.

The pastor stepped forward, beginning the ceremony. Under the open blue sky of the Swiss mountains, surrounded by warmth, truth, and love, Victor and Evelyn exchanged their vows.

"I give you this ring," Victor said, sliding a sparkling diamond band onto her finger, "as a promise that I will honor you, protect you, and love you for all the days of my life."

"I give you this ring," Evelyn repeated, sliding a gold band onto his finger, "as a promise that our family will always stand in the light, together."

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the pastor declared with a warm smile. "You may kiss the bride."

Victor pulled Evelyn into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, loving kiss. The guests cheered and clapped warmly.

Sophie ran up to them, jumping into the middle of their embrace, throwing her small arms around both of their legs.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Sophie squealed happily. "Kiss me too!"

Victor laughed, dropping to his knees and scooping up his daughter in his right arm while keeping his left arm locked tightly around Evelyn’s waist. He pressed a warm kiss to Sophie’s right cheek, while Evelyn pressed a kiss to her left.

Sophie giggled, her bright blue-gray eyes sparkling with contentment, her hands wrapped around her parents' necks.

They looked out across the sunny gardens, watching the gentle breeze blow cherry blossom petals across the blue lake. The dark night in Bern was gone. The lies were destroyed. The silent child had found her voice, and in doing so, had healed every broken piece of her parents' lives.

And under the warm Swiss sun, surrounded by everlasting love, the Hale family lived happily ever after.
