Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Siege

The top floor of Hale Tower in Bern was a glass dome overlooking the Alps. Inside, twenty board members sat around a crescent-shaped glass table, whispering nervously among themselves.
At the head of the table sat Richard Hale—a silver-haired man in his late fifties with cold, calculating eyes, dressed in an expensive tailored suit.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Richard announced, tapping his fountain pen against his crystal glass. "The scandal surrounding the late Clara Hale and Dr. Keller is threatening to destroy decades of shareholder value. Victor Hale has become a liability. He is distracted, emotional, and refusal to disclose the nature of the federal investigation makes him unfit for the role of CEO."
"He has thirty minutes to arrive, Richard," an elder board member pointed out. "We should hear his statement."
"His statement will be more damage control!" Richard snapped. "I move for an immediate vote of no confidence to remove Victor Hale and appoint an interim chairman—"
The heavy mahogany double doors snapped open.
Victor Hale entered the dome, flanked by Julian Mercer and two senior legal advisors. He moved with the terrifying grace of a predator entering his own territory.
"Richard," Victor’s voice boomed across the dome. "You always were eager to sit in chairs you didn't earn."
The board members straightened up instantly, a wave of tension sweeping through the room.
Richard sneered, leaning back in his chair. "Victor. Glad you could join us. We were just discussing your resignation."
"I’m not resigning," Victor said calmly, stopping at the foot of the table, placing his hands flat on the polished glass.
"You don't have a choice!" Richard scoffed. "The market is crashing! The press is at our doors! Your mother's foundation is under federal seizure!"
Julian Mercer stepped forward, opening a leather briefcase and sliding thick folders down both sides of the crescent table.
"What is this?" a board member asked, picking up a folder.
"These," Victor declared, his voice cutting through the room like a razor, "are the bank records of shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands under the name of Richard Hale."
Richard’s face paled slightly, his grip on his fountain pen tightening. "That... that is private financial information!"
"That," Victor corrected, "is evidence of corporate embezzlement. For three years, Richard, you were blackmailing my mother, Clara. You discovered her illegal activities at the Saint Aurelia clinic, but instead of stopping her or reporting her, you used that information to siphon forty million Euros from the foundation into your offshore accounts."
Shouts of outrage erupted around the boardroom. Directors began flipping frantically through the evidence pages.
"Lies!" Richard screamed, standing up, his chair screeching against the floor. "This is a forged smear campaign!"
"The Swiss Federal Prosecutor has already frozen those Cayman accounts, Richard," Julian added smoothly. "And federal marshals are waiting in the lobby downstairs with an arrest warrant for extortion and grand larceny."
Richard stumbled back, his eyes darting wildly toward the glass doors.
Two uniformed Swiss police officers stepped into the boardroom, approaching Richard with steel handcuffs.
"Richard Hale," the lead officer declared. "You are under arrest."
As his uncle was led away in handcuffs, screaming threats and curses, Victor walked to the head of the crescent table, pulling out the massive leather armchair.

He looked around at the remaining nineteen board members, who sat in stunned, breathless silence.
"Now," Victor said calmly, buttoning his jacket. "Let's get back to work."
