Chapter 9 - The New Foundation

Six months later.

The grand auditorium of the Bern Cultural Center was packed with over five hundred guests—journalists, state officials, medical professionals, and philanthropists.

Tonight was the official launch of the Evelyn Hart & Sophie Hale Protection Initiative—a hundred-million-Euro foundation dedicated to investigating private fertility clinics, offering legal defense for exploited women, and providing free genetic testing for adoptive families.

On stage, Victor Hale stood at the crystal podium, looking magnificent in a dark suit.

"For years," Victor announced, his voice echoing powerfully through the auditorium, "the power of wealth has been used to create shadows where vulnerable people were silenced. Tonight, my family steps entirely out of those shadows. This foundation will ensure that no mother is ever lied to, and no child is ever stolen again."

The crowd erupted into resounding, heartfelt applause.

Victor smiled, turning to look at the front row.

Sitting in the center seat was Evelyn, wearing a stunning floor-length emerald green gown that complemented her hazel eyes. Beside her sat three-year-old Sophie, looking adorable in a matching green velvet dress, clapping her tiny hands enthusiastically.

"Mommy! Look! Daddy's talking!" Sophie chirped loudly, causing the nearby guests to chuckle warmly.

Evelyn leaned down, kissing Sophie's cheek. "He's doing a wonderful job, sweetie."

After the ceremony, a grand reception was held in the glass foyer of the center. Reporters crowded around Victor and Evelyn, taking photos, but the tone of the press was no longer investigative or hostile—it was filled with respect and admiration for the family that had turned an incredible tragedy into a beacon of hope for thousands.

Julian Mercer walked over, holding a glass of champagne, a wide grin on his face.

"Federal Prosecutor called ten minutes ago," Julian reported cheerfully. "Dr. Keller’s plea bargain was rejected. He was sentenced to twenty years without parole. And Richard Hale’s asset forfeiture was finalized today."

Victor took a glass of champagne from a passing tray, handing it to Evelyn. "Justice is finally complete."

"No," Evelyn smiled softly, clinking her glass against his. "Justice was completed the day Sophie called me 'Mommy' in that restaurant."
