Chapter 7 - The Unbreakable Bond

By nightfall, the corporate rebellion had been crushed, and Hale International’s stock had stabilized after Victor held a decisive, brilliant press conference addressing the restructuring of his mother's foundation.
When Victor returned to the estate late that evening, the house was filled with a soft, warm quiet.
He walked up the grand staircase to the second floor, pushing open the door to the primary guest suite.
The scene inside brought a profound, unshakeable warmth to his chest.
Evelyn was sitting in the large plush armchair by the window, a storybook open in her lap. Sophie was curled up on her chest, fast asleep, her small thumb resting near her mouth. Evelyn had fallen asleep as well, her head tilted back against the velvet cushion, her chestnut hair falling softly across her shoulders.
Victor walked softly across the thick carpet. He picked up a soft cashmere throw blanket from the bed and gently draped it over both of them.
Evelyn stirred, her hazel eyes opening slowly. When she saw Victor standing above them in the dim lamp light, a soft, gentle smile touched her lips.
"How was the meeting?" Evelyn whispered, keeping her voice low so as not to wake Sophie.
"Richard is in jail," Victor said softly, sitting down on the edge of the footstool beside her chair. "The company is secure."
Evelyn looked at him, noticing the exhaustion lingering around his eyes. She reached out a hand, setting it gently over his hand resting on his knee. "I'm glad, Victor."
Victor looked down at their joined hands, then up at her face. "Julian prepared the legal paperwork today, Evelyn."
Evelyn’s smile faltered slightly, a flicker of anxiety touching her eyes. "What paperwork?"
"Custody documents," Victor said quietly. "Full, legal, joint custody. You are formally recognized as Sophie's biological and legal mother. Half of my personal estate, along with a permanent seat on the board of the restructured Hale Foundation, has been transferred to your name."
Evelyn stared at him, tears filling her eyes. "Victor... I didn't ask for money or seats on a board."
"I know you didn't," Victor said, his voice rich with emotion. "That’s why you deserve it. You were robbed of two years, Evelyn. I can't give those years back, but I can ensure that no one in this world can ever question your place beside our daughter."
"Our daughter," Evelyn repeated, the words sounding sweet and surreal.
"Our daughter," Victor confirmed, reaching up to gently brush a strand of hair behind her ear.
May you like
Sophie stirred in her sleep, letting out a tiny sigh, her small hand reaching out and grasping both Victor’s finger and Evelyn’s thumb together in one tiny fist.
They looked down at their daughter, then looked at each other, their hands intertwined beneath hers, feeling the strong, rhythmic pulse of a family being rebuilt from the ashes.
