Chapter 2 - The Federal Lockdown

Chief Miller’s hand froze on his holster. He looked at the laser sights dancing across his chest, then at Richard Whitmore’s horrified face. Slowly, carefully, the Chief unclipped his belt and let his gun crash onto the driveway.

"You're crazy," Richard stammered, backing toward his mother, Margaret, who was clinging to the front door frame in utter shock. "My family funds federal campaigns! I'm calling Senator Vance!"

"Senator Vance is General Vance's brother, Mr. Whitmore," Commander Briggs said coldly, snapping a pair of heavy steel handcuffs around Richard’s wrists. "And General Vance personally signed your federal hold order thirty seconds ago."

Arthur didn't watch Richard get dragged toward the back of an SUV. His entire focus was on Lily as the federal paramedics gently lifted her onto a gurney.

"I'm right here, sweetheart," Arthur held her hand as they pushed her into the specialized medical transport.

"Dad..." Lily gasped through her split lip, tears leaking down her face. "My phone... under the sofa... it has everything. The video from today... and the audio logs from the last six months."

Arthur nodded, his jaw set like granite. He turned to Commander Briggs. "My daughter’s phone is inside the living room beneath the main sofa. It contains critical digital evidence. Ensure federal evidence technicians recover it before Margaret Whitmore tries to destroy it."

"Already on it, sir," Briggs replied respectfully. "Where are we sending Miss Miller?"

"Walter Reed Military Medical Center," Arthur commanded. "She receives high-level security clearance, top-tier surgical treatment, and round-the-clock armed federal guard. Nobody touches her without my personal authorization."

"Understood, Director."

As the medical helicopter lifted off from the front lawn, carrying Lily away to safety, Arthur turned back toward the grand mansion. The high-society guests who had stood by and watched Lily bleed were now huddled in panic as federal agents systematically documented their identities, taking down names, statements, and confiscating personal phones.

Margaret Whitmore marched down the steps, her pearl necklace trembling against her throat. "Arthur Miller! You disgraceful coward! You bring armed soldiers into my home because your unstable daughter threw a tantrum?! I will ruin you! I will buy your tiny little house and demolish it!"

Arthur walked up the marble steps until he was standing inches from Margaret. He was no longer the quiet widower who politely tipped his hat at the grocery store. The sheer, terrifying aura of a veteran covert operative radiated from him, causing Margaret to instinctively step back.

"Margaret," Arthur said, his voice quiet, steady, and terrifyingly clear. "You stood in that doorway and shoved me while my daughter lay bleeding on your rug. You told me she was having an 'episode' while your son choked her."

"She... she fell!" Margaret lied, though her voice wavered.

"Your son’s fingerprints are on her throat," Arthur replied. "And before this week is over, I will personally ensure every asset, every offshore account, and every dirty bribe your family has used to purchase this town is seized by the federal government. You built an empire on fear and cowardice. Watch how fast it crumbles."

Arthur turned on his heel and walked toward the lead SUV, leaving Margaret hyperventilating on her grand porch as federal agents began cordoning off her home with yellow crime-scene tape.
