Chapter 18 - The Truth Exposed

"I have all the proof we need, Marcus," James said calmly, pointing to the large monitor truck parked across the street.
District Attorney Vance walked out of the crowd, flanked by state troopers. On the giant screen above the square, the ledger pages began to scroll, alongside audio recordings Eleanor had secretly made before her death, documenting Marcus’s early threats to siphon company funds.
Marcus backed away, his lawyers quickly stepping away from him to avoid being implicated. "This is a setup! You think this square is yours? I'll burn this city down before I let you give it to the trash of this town!" Marcus screamed, completely unhinged now, revealing his true malice to the live television audience.
"It's over, Marcus," James said.

Realizing he was trapped, Marcus lunged at James, his hands aiming for James's throat. But the crowd of citizens—the very people James had helped over the past year: the hot dog vendor, the harmonica player, the local fathers and workers—stepped forward. They formed a human wall, blocking Marcus from reaching James.
The state troopers tackled Marcus to the ground, clicking the handcuffs into place. As they dragged him away, Marcus cursed James’s name, his voice fading into the distance. The crowd broke into a resounding cheer. James stood at the center, finally breathing a sigh of relief. The threat was gone.
