The high-speed express train glided silently across the snow-dusted tracks toward New York City. Inside the first-class carriage, Claire Bennett leaned back against the plush leather seat, her hand intertwined with Marcus Vance’s. Outside, the frozen landscape blurred into a streak of white.
Three years ago, a winter train ride meant panicked double-checking of slide decks and enduring the sharp insults of her former boss, Richard Vance. Today, as Executive Vice President of Global Strategy at Apex Global, she was traveling to open her masterpiece: the new seventy-story flagship headquarters in Midtown Manhattan.
