Chapter 18 - Desperate Retaliation
As the officers escorted a shouting, disgraced Richard toward the elevator, he broke free for a split second, lunging violently toward Claire in a final fit of rage.
"If I go down, you come with me!" Richard screamed.
Before Richard could even reach her, Marcus moved with lightning speed, blocking Richard and throwing him forcefully to the marble floor. Security guards instantly pinned Richard down, securing him permanently.
Marcus turned immediately to Claire, checking her hands and shoulders, his eyes wild with concern. "Are you hurt? Did he touch you?"

Claire touched Marcus's cheek softly, feeling his deep, protective heart beating fast. "I'm completely fine, Marcus. Thanks to you."
Richard was dragged away in chains, facing decades in federal prison without bail.
