Chapter 13 - Poison in the Boardroom
The morning of the flagship launch arrived under a clear, icy blue sky. The seventy-story glass monolith of Apex Global sparkled in Midtown. Hundreds of international reporters and elite investors gathered in the main atrium.
Just ten minutes before Claire was scheduled to cut the ribbon, Apex stock took a sudden 8% dip on the pre-market exchange.
Evelyn, Claire’s chief of staff, ran up with an iPad. "Claire! Carter Vance’s legal team just filed an emergency injunction in Manhattan Federal Court, alleging Apex bribed municipal officers to secure the land zoning!"
Panic flared among the board members present, but Claire remained impeccably composed. She looked at Marcus, who gave her a reassuring, confident nod.

"Evelyn, release our pre-prepared counter-audit package to the SEC and Bloomberg immediately," Claire commanded calmly. "And call Chief Judge Miller. Show him the recorded confession from Carter’s bagman that we secured last night."
Claire had anticipated Carter's move three steps in advance.
