Chapter 29 - The Garden of Rebirth

Six months later. Early summer.
The Sterling-Vance Estate was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a late afternoon sun. The snow that had once covered the grounds was long gone, replaced by sprawling green lawns, blooming cherry blossoms, and vast gardens filled with fragrant white peonies and roses.
A soft, warm breeze rustled through the glass house where their wedding had taken place half a year ago.
Claire stood near the fountain in the center of the garden, wearing a soft pastel sundress, her dark hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders. She looked peaceful, radiant, her skin glowing with a health and happiness she had never known in her past life.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a familiar, solid chest.
Marcus buried his face into her neck, breathing in her soft scent of jasmine and rain, kissing the tender skin beneath her ear.
"You’re thinking again, my queen," Marcus murmured lovingly, his deep voice sending a warm shiver through her body.
Claire leaned back against him, covering his large hands with her own, looking out over the blooming gardens.
"I was just thinking about Union Station," Claire said softly, a gentle smile touching her lips. "Two years ago, I had ten dollars in my pocket, a bruised shoulder, and I was running from men who wanted to lock me in a dark room forever."
Marcus turned her around gently in his arms, looking down at her face with a devotion so deep it took her breath away.
"And now?" Marcus asked, his dark eyes shining with unconditional love.
"Now," Claire smiled, reaching up to gently trace the line of his jawline, "I’m standing in paradise with the man who rescued my soul."
"You rescued me, Claire," Marcus corrected softly, leaning down to press a lingering, sweet kiss to her lips. "I was just a wall of stone until you taught me how to live."
Director Reynolds and Senator Vance walked out onto the patio, holding glasses of iced tea, laughing together like old retired generals who had finally won their last war.
"Marcus! Claire!" Senator Vance called out with a warm smile. "The dinner table is set on the terrace! Come sit before the food gets cold!"

"We’re coming, Uncle," Marcus called back, keeping his arm firmly around Claire’s waist as they walked together toward the house.
Every threat had been neutralized. Every enemy was behind bars. The Sterling-Vance legacy was secure, anchored not by fear or political leverage, but by honor, truth, and unshakeable loyalty.
