Chapter 23 - The Geneva Connection

Deciding that waiting for the next legal strike was a losing strategy, Thomas prepared to travel to Geneva. He needed to track the origin of the offshore trust documents before Victoria could legally tie them into an unyielding knot.

"I'm coming with you," I declared, packing a small weekend bag.

"Claire, it's safer for you to stay here with Miles and Arthur," Thomas argued gently.

"No," I insisted, looking him dead in the eye. "My entire life, men in suits discussed my fate and my child's future in rooms I wasn't allowed to enter. I am not sitting on the porch waiting for news. Miles is safe with Arthur and our security team at the cottage. We face this together."

Thomas stared at me for a long moment, a slow, proud smile breaking across his tired face. "Together it is."

Forty-eight hours later, we were standing inside a discreet, glass-walled private wealth office overlooking Lake Geneva. The autumn chill was biting, but inside the temperature felt even colder.

Facing us across a polished mahogany desk was Herr Weber, the veteran Swiss trustee who had managed the Vance family’s private assets for thirty years.

"Mrs. Hale," Herr Weber spoke in measured, precise tones. "Your late father-in-law was a difficult man, but Miss Sterling’s actions are entirely legal under Swiss trust jurisdiction. She holds the senior debt certificates. Unless you can prove that those funds were created through direct fraudulent misrepresentation against you personally, the court will grant her control over the master trust next week."

"Then let me give you the proof," I said, placing an old leather-bound journal on his desk.

It was my personal diary from six years ago—the detailed, day-by-day record of every financial demand Richard and Julian Vance made during my pregnancy, documenting how they used the trust creation as a bargaining chip to force me into signing away my family's heritage property.

"In Switzerland," Thomas added, leaning forward, "coerced trust creation invalidates senior debt claims. And if this journal hits the Zurich tribunal on Monday, Victoria Sterling's debt certificates become toxic assets overnight."
