"The legal claims against your property, the trust freezes, the artificial zoning disputes—they are all officially dead. Victoria Sterling will be tied up in criminal defense proceedings for the next decade."

Arthur walked up, holding three warm paper cups of artisan coffee, handing one to Thomas and one to me. "To the complete and utter destruction of our enemies," Arthur toasted with a cheerful laugh.

"Do you think they'll ever come back?" I asked softly, watching our reflection in the train window.

"No," Thomas said, wrapping his arm around me and kissing the top of my head. "The Vances are gone. The Sterlings are gone. There is no one left to fight, Claire. You saved your son, and you built a wall of truth around this family that no amount of money can ever break."
