Chapter 25 - The Unraveling

When we returned to England, the battle shifted from silent boardroom maneuvers to an all-out public reckoning.
Thomas's intelligence network, working in tandem with Arthur Davenport, had uncovered the linchpin: Victoria Sterling had illegally used funds from an employee pension scheme within her hedge fund to finance her acquisition of Vance Global's debt. It was a high-stakes gamble that relied entirely on us surrendering quickly under pressure.
We assembled our team at the cottage in Oxfordshire. The living room, usually filled with the warmth of a crackling fire and family laughter, became a central command station.
"If we file this evidence with the Financial Conduct Authority in London," Arthur explained, pointing to a series of audited balance sheets spread across the coffee table, "the regulatory freeze on Victoria's funds will be immediate. She won't have the capital to maintain her lawsuits against your property title."
"Do it," I said quietly. "No compromises. No private settlements."
Miles ran into the room, holding a drawing he had made at school—a picture of our stone cottage under a big golden sun, with three figures standing hand in hand in the orchard.

"Mommy, look!" Miles squealed, handing the paper to me. "That's you, that's me, and that's Daddy guarding the trees!"
Thomas picked Miles up, swinging him high into the air as our son erupted into wild, joyful giggles. Looking at the two of them, I realized how profoundly our world had transformed. Three years ago, fear would have paralyzed me. Today, surrounded by genuine devotion, fear had no power here.
