Chapter 26 - The Siege of London

The following week, the final regulatory hearing was convened at the Financial Conduct Authority headquarters in Canary Wharf.
The room was sleek, modern, and filled with high-ranking financial regulators, barristers, and corporate investigators. Victoria Sterling sat at the far end of the long glass conference table, flanked by four defense attorneys. Her usual composure was beginning to fray around the edges; the financial markets were already reacting to rumors of an impending regulatory intervention.
Eleanor Thorne stood beside Thomas and me, presenting our evidence with surgical precision.
"Commissioners," Eleanor began, launching a clear digital presentation on the large screens lining the room. "What began as an alleged debt recovery operation against the estate of Miles Hale was, in truth, an orchestrated attempt to cover up a multi-million-pound deficit in Miss Sterling's primary investment fund."
Document after document appeared: wire transfers, falsified compliance certificates, and private messages between Victoria Sterling and her disgraced brother, Marcus.
Victoria's lead counsel leaned over, whispering frantically in her ear. Victoria's face grew dangerously pale.
"This is a smear campaign engineered by Thomas Hale!" Victoria burst out, breaking professional decorum. "He has used his investigative firm to breach trade secrecy laws!"

"Miss Sterling," the Chief Commissioner interrupted sternly, slamming his folder shut. "The documentation presented here originates from official Swiss banking disclosures and certified public filings. In light of these revelations, this commission is issuing an immediate freeze on all assets associated with Sterling Global Capital, effective immediately."
The silence that followed was deafening. Victoria Sterling sat frozen, realization dawning upon her: her empire had crumbled in the very room where she had planned our ruin.
