Chapter 11 - The Echo of the Past

The music at the Plaza Hotel ballroom was enchanting, but the peace was short-lived. As Gabriel and Norah shared their beautiful dance, a waiter slipped a sleek, black envelope into Gabriel’s jacket pocket.

When the dance ended, Gabriel stepped into the corridor and opened it. Inside was a single photograph of Costa Global Logistics’ old shipping yard in Palermo, Italy, with a chilling note written in red ink: “The blood money you used to clean your soul still belongs to us, Gabriel. The Syndicate does not give up its crown.”

Gabriel’s face turned to stone. The Syndicate—the ruthless European cartel his late father had secretly entangled the family business with—had found him. They didn't care about the new, legitimate Costa Foundation. They wanted their money-laundering empire back.

Norah walked out, noticing his pale expression. "Gabriel? What's wrong?"

Gabriel quickly hid the note, forcing a smile. "Nothing, my love. Just a minor business matter. Let's go back to our son." But as he looked at Norah's radiant smile, a cold dread settled deep in his chest. The ghosts of his family's past were coming to tear down the sanctuary they had built.
