Chapter 5 - The Judgment of the House

Julianna’s eyes narrowed as she glared at Marco, her grip tightening on her weapon. "Where is he, Marco? Where is your heroic little brother?"

"Luca is where he needs to be," Marco replied calmly, taking a slow step forward onto the terrace. "And you, Julianna, are standing on private property surrounded by fifty federal officers."

Julianna let out a harsh, mocking laugh. "Lie all you want, cousin! My jammers isolated this valley twenty minutes ago. No federal agents are coming to save you."

"Your jammers failed fifteen minutes ago, Julianna," a clear, authoritative voice called out from the darkness behind the SUV.

Agent Sarah Vance stepped out from the shadows of the high garden wall, flanked by six heavily armed FBI tactical operatives, their laser sights painting bright red dots across the chest plates of Julianna’s mercenaries.

"Drop your weapons! Hands where we can see them!" Vance commanded, her voice cutting through the smoky night air like an iron blade.

Julianna’s face twitched with shock and fury. She looked around frantically, realizing that every corner of the terrace was surrounded by tactical officers holding high-ground positions.

"Drop the gun, Julianna," Viktor pleaded, his trembling hand grabbing his daughter’s arm. "It’s over! The Moretti name is dead!"

"Never!" Julianna shrieked, shoving her father violently to the marble floor.

In a fit of blind rage, Julianna spun around, raising her weapon directly at Marco.

Before her finger could pull the trigger, a shadow blurred across the terrace from the conservatory roof above.

Luca dropped onto the terrace between Julianna and Marco, his motion swift, terrifying, and absolute. He grabbed Julianna’s wrist, twisting it upward with lethal precision. The nickel-plated handgun discharged harmlessly into the night sky before clattering onto the marble floor.

Luca swept her legs out from under her, pinning Julianna face-down onto the cold terrace, snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists before she could even draw breath to scream.

The four mercenaries, seeing their leader captured and surrounded by federal sniper teams, immediately threw their weapons onto the grass, raising their hands in total surrender.

Silence descended upon the terrace, broken only by the crackle of distant flames being extinguished by the automated irrigation systems and the labored breathing of the defeated Viktor Moretti.

Luca stood up, stepping back to stand beside Marco and Sarah. His amber eyes looked down at Julianna with a mixture of profound pity and cold detachment.

"You came here thinking you were fighting an empire, Julianna," Luca said softly, his voice echoing clearly across the quiet estate. "You thought we were still trapped in the shadows of Chicago. But we left those shadows behind years ago."

Julianna struggled against her restraints, spit and tears flecking her lips as federal agents lifted her to her feet. "You ruined us, Luca! You destroyed our family!"

"No," Sarah said, stepping forward beside Luca, her hand resting over his arm, her eyes clear and unshakeable. "You destroyed yourselves. You chose fear, greed, and violence. Luca chose love, honor, and family. That’s why we survived, and that’s why you lose."

Agent Vance stepped up, placing a hand on Marco’s shoulder before nodding to her officers. "Take them into custody. Process Viktor under the federal escape warrant, and book Julianna on multiple counts of domestic terrorism, arson, and armed assault."

As the federal officers led Julianna and Viktor away down the long gravel driveway, the night sky began to clear, revealing the cool, crisp light of an approaching dawn over Lake Michigan.

Marco looked at Luca and Sarah, breathing a deep sigh of relief. "The last ghost is gone."

Luca pulled Sarah into his arms, kissing her forehead gently as she rested her head against his chest. "Permanently."
