Chapter 17 - The Trap Snaps

Before Victor could pull the trigger, Luca dove behind a rusted steel container. The mercenaries opened fire, the deafening roar of automatic weapons shattering the silence of the railyard, sparks flying as bullets ripped through the old locomotives.

"Vance! Move in!" Luca shouted into his collar-mic.

"We're jammed, Luca!" Vance’s voice came through with heavy static. "Victor has an industrial-grade signal blocker on site! We're moving blindly—" The line cut out entirely.

Luca was on his own. He slipped through the maze of rusted train cars, using his intimate knowledge of tactical movement to flank the first mercenary. He caught the man from behind, disabling him with a swift, brutal strike to the throat, taking his weapon.

"You can't run forever, nephew!" Victor’s voice echoed through the warehouse, distorted by the metal structures. "I know about the orchard! I know about little Lena, and Ash, and the baby Grace! Even if you kill me today, my associates have the coordinates! They will finish the job!"

The mention of his children’s names unleashed a terrifying, primal power within Luca. He stopped hiding. He stepped out from behind a train car, firing with lethal accuracy. The remaining mercenaries dropped one by one, caught off guard by the sheer, unyielding ferocity of a father fighting for his family's survival.

Finally, only Victor remained, his gun shaking as he backed toward the blinding glare of the locomotive headlights.
