Chapter 20 - The Everlasting Harvest

Two months later.
The September sun was mellow, casting a golden, amber glow across the Michigan orchard. The historic barn had been completely rebuilt, bigger and stronger than before, its new wood smelling of fresh pine and oil.
The harvest was a magnificent success. Rows of wooden crates were piled high along the path, overflowing with bright red, crisp apples. The logistics firm had recovered all its contracts, its reputation higher than ever before.
Under the shade of the two massive oak trees, the long wooden table was set once again. This time, there were no security shutters on the windows, no black SUVs at the gate, and no hidden wires.
Lena, Ash, and little Grace were sitting on the grass, helping Marco and Agent Vance pick out the best apples to bake into pies. Their laughter rang out across the property—a clear, strong symphony of pure joy that had completely, permanently erased every shadow of their past.
Sarah walked down from the terrace, wearing her favorite cream summer dress. She held a fresh pitcher of ice-cold lemonade, her face radiant with a deep, unshakeable peace that would never be threatened again.
Luca stood at the edge of the trees, watching his family. He walked over to her, taking the heavy pitcher from her hands and setting it on the table, before pulling her into his warm, powerful embrace.
"You're doing it again, Mrs. Moretti," Luca whispered against her ear, his voice a low velvet rumble of profound contentment.

"I'm just counting our years, Luca," Sarah whispered back, wrapping her arms around his neck, breathing in his familiar, comforting scent. "All the years of light we have left."
Luca smiled, leaning down to kiss her under the shade of the old oaks—a sweet, passionate promise of a beautiful, everlasting future that belonged entirely to them.
