Chapter 13 - The First Strike

The attack came not with guns, but with a digital blackout. At 4:12 a.m., the main server room of Moretti Logistics in Detroit was struck by a massive, sophisticated cyberattack. Simultaneously, three of their primary shipping trucks traveling through Indiana were forced off the road by unmarked black sedans.

Luca’s phone rang. It was the regional manager, his voice panicked over the speakerphone. "Mr. Moretti! The drivers are safe, but the cargo—two million dollars worth of medical supplies—was hijacked. They left a message on the dispatch screen."

"What did it say?" Luca demanded.

"It just said: 'The family debt must be paid in full.'"

Marco slammed his fist on the desk. "He’s trying to bankrupt us. If we fail to deliver those medical supplies to the state hospitals, our contracts will be terminated, and the insurance liabilities will ruin us."

"It's a distraction," Agent Vance said, entering the room with her jacket already on. "Victor wants Luca to leave the estate to handle the logistics crisis in Detroit. The moment Luca steps outside the federal security perimeter, he’s exposed."

Luca looked at Sarah, who was watching him from the doorway. He knew his uncle's psychological games. Victor wanted him cornered, desperate, and forced to choose between his business legacy and his family's safety.

"I'm not leaving," Luca said, his voice ringing with absolute certainty. "Marco, reroute the backup shipments from our Ohio warehouse. Pay the liabilities out of our private reserve fund. We fulfill every contract, no matter the cost. Victor thinks money is my weakness because it was his. He doesn't realize my only wealth is sleeping upstairs."
