Chapter 29 - The Fall of the Dynasty

The Vance estate in Lake Geneva was a sprawling, stone mansion surrounded by dense pine forests. The gray waters of the lake lapped coldly against the private wooden pier.

Claire walked into the grand parlor alone, her heart pounding but her steps firm. Arthur sat in a leather armchair, a glass of scotch in his hand. Helen, the elderly retired clerk, sat in the corner, looking pale and terrified.

"You actually came," Arthur said, standing up, a cruel smile on his lips. "You always did have more courage than sense, Claire. But courage without power is just a tragedy waiting to happen."

"I have the power of the truth, Arthur," Claire said, standing her ground. "And the federal agents currently surrounding your property."

Arthur laughed, pulling a small remote from his pocket. "Do you think I didn't sweep you for trackers, Claire? The moment you entered this room, my signal jammer went active. Your little friends are currently searching the wrong side of the lake."

He stepped closer, his eyes wild with a desperate, aristocratic madness. "You ruined my family. You put my son in prison. You destroyed our legacy. Today, we end the Vance name's troubles."

He raised a heavy, silver-plated pistol, aiming it directly at her chest.

But before his finger could tighten on the trigger, the glass conservatory doors shattered inward. David lunged through the broken glass, his body colliding with Arthur’s, sending both men crashing to the floor. The pistol fired, the bullet embedding itself in the plaster ceiling.

"Get away from her!" David roared, pinning Arthur to the ground.

The tactical team, having bypassed the jammer using satellite-linked backups David had prepared, swarmed the room seconds later, securing Arthur and rescuing Helen.

As they dragged Arthur away in handcuffs, he looked at Claire, his face twisted in rage and defeat. Claire stood tall, her arm wrapped securely around David, who was breathing heavily but unhurt.

"Your dynasty is over, Arthur," Claire said, her voice echoing in the quiet room. "The name Vance belongs to the survivors now."
