Before Daniel could even stand up to threaten her, the two men behind Claire stepped forward. They weren't private security. They pulled out gold badges.
"Daniel Vance? Vanessa Vance? FBI, Federal Financial Crimes Division," the lead agent said, his voice echoing loudly in the quiet cafe. "You are both under arrest for wire fraud, embezzlement, and grand larceny."

"Daniel! Do something! Tell them!" Vanessa screamed, her face twisting in pure terror.
Daniel tried to protest, but his hands were already forced into steel cuffs. He looked at Claire, his arrogance completely shattered. For the first time in eight years, he looked small.
"Claire, please," Daniel pleaded, his voice breaking. "We can talk about this. I was angry. The coffee... it was an accident! I love you, Claire!"
Claire looked at the man who had terrorized her emotionally and physically. She didn't feel anger anymore. She didn't feel sadness. She felt absolutely nothing.
